Standalone Fourth Book in the London Murder Mysteries Series

Beth Haldane, SE21’s premier – and only – single mum amateur sleuth, is really pleased to find a new friend at the school gates, in the shape of irrepressibly bouncy Nina. As well as a way with words, Nina has a puzzle she wants Beth to solve, centred on the solicitor’s office where Nina works in Herne Hill. But as the mystery thickens, threatening to drag in not just Nina and her boss, but the yummy mummies of Dulwich, too, Beth is about to find out just how far some people will go to keep up appearances.

Join Beth in this fourth instalment in the London Murder Mystery series for her toughest case yet.

Homicide in Herne Hill starts in the week before Christmas and Beth is feeling lonely as her best friend Katie is off on a family holiday.  She, unexpectedly, meets Nina, another mum at her son Ben's school and they hit it off straightaway.  Though Nina is almost the exact opposite of Beth - she doesn't worry, is bubbly and chatty - whereas Beth constantly worries - about her son, whether she's a good mother, about work and about her relationship with the gorgeous DI Harry York.

This is the fourth in the series and, having read all the others, this is just as entertaining.

When Nina confides in Beth that she thinks things just aren't right at the solicitors where she works, Beth's curiosity and obsession with the truth puts her in another situation where she could end up in trouble again!  Not only does she get involved with Nina's work, there's also the awful situation of dogs being poisoned in the area which is so upsetting and puzzling.

Beth's observations of people are so astute, I love her scrutiny of the Dulwich 'yummy mummies', and in particular the odious Belinda, the queen bee of Dulwich.  I really warmed to Beth, she's such a down to earth person, always wanting to do the right thing but so often getting into scrapes ........ Harry calls her a 'trouble magnet'!

Homicide in Herne Hill is not a fast paced, all action whodunnit, it's more a gentle meander through the streets and shops of Herne Hill and Dulwich, stopping off to gather information and trouble along the way.
